Olympic park with Olympic tower

Munich was host to the XXth Olympic Summer Games in 1972. Prior to this, a 3 km2 sports park was built north of Munich. The adventurous tent-roof construction and the 290-metre high tower have become the modern landmarks of the city. Apart from various events in the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Hall, the park offers a wide range of recreational facilities, for example the summer festival in August and the “Tollwood” arts festival:

The Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena in Munich’s northern suburbs was completed at the end of 2005 and inaugurated with several games between of the Munich soccer clubs Bayern München and TSV 1860 München. The Allianz Arena has now replaced the Olympic Stadium as the centre of Munich’s soccer scene.
