Mangostin Asia Restaurants

On May 23, 1990, the Mangostin opened its doors in Munich and surprised the locals with a concept that was new, unique, and enjoyed huge popularity from day one.

Over 156 000 kg of herbs, lemongrass, banana leaves, spices, and fruits such as the famous flower fragrance mango have since been flown in from Thailand for Roland Kuffler’s and Joseph Peter’s Mangostin. For Joseph Peter, the weekly delivery via air freight directly from Bangkok is one of the most important elements for creating authentic dishes and cocktails at the Mangostin.

At least twice a year, he flies to Thailand personally to recruit staff, negotiate delivery agreements, purchase new equipment and maintain business relationships which he has developed during his years in Thailand as a chef for the Bangkok Hilton.

In addition to the approximately 1 620 000 patrons from Munich, international stars, including Carl Lewis (who dines at the Mangostin every time he visits Munich), Elton John (incognito with a wild wig in the Beer Garden), Billy Joel, Tracy Chapman, Professor Christian Bernard, and even a member of the Thai royal family, the son of King Bhumiphol, have been guests at the Mangostin. The Rolling Stones even ordered a huge plate of sushi delivered to their private jet during their Munich concert in 1999: they had heard that the Mangostin had the best sushi in town.

The Mangostin has three restaurants:

Keiko (Japanese)
